FAQs

Have any questions about the Art Gobblers universe? You’re likely to find the answer in here!

Basics

Art Gobblers is an experimental decentralized art factory owned by aliens.

The mechanisms that power it will be final at the time of mint, and no more will be built. We hope they empower an ecosystem capable of creating and collecting the coolest art in the universe without the need for human intervention.

Art Gobblers centers around art created with the Art Gobblers Draw tool. Here are some examples:

As their name indicates, Art Gobblers gobble this art and display it in their stomach galleries forever. The goal of every Art Gobbler is to gobble the coolest art they can find, the ultimate mark of status in Gobbler society.

The Gobblers also squirt Goo out of hoses on their backs. They love the smell of their own Goo, so the more they have in their Goo tanks, the faster they squirt out more. The Goo fuels their technology – in particular, teleporting in new Art Gobblers and producing the Blank Pages needed for the process of “glamination” which makes drawings collectable and gobble-able.

Intrigued? Confused? Overwhelmed? Don’t worry, we’ll break the whole project down aspect-by-aspect over the course of this FAQ. const’s get started!

Art Gobblers

Art Gobblers are fully animated ERC721 NFTs. They were designed by Justin Roiland and have tons of randomized attributes.

They Gobble art and produce the Goo that serves as the foundation of the Art Gobblers economy.

Art Gobblers can gobble art on Glaminated Pages. Once a piece of art has been gobbled, it is displayed inside the Gobbler’s stomach gallery forever. This means each Art Gobbler can serve as an art gallery, an individually curated portion of the decentralized gallery that is Art Gobblers.

There will be 10,000 Art Gobbler NFTs, including Legendary Gobblers (more on them later).

The Art Gobblers begin at a supply of 2,000, issued as a free mint. Of these, 300 go to the initial contributors and the rest go to the community: a mixture of collaborators, artists, collectors, builders, contest winners, and other lucky individuals.

Over the next ten years or so, an additional 8,000 Art Gobblers will be teleported in using Goo. At first, the protocol is scheduled to issue roughly 200 Art Gobblers per month, but this will slow down over time. Learn more here

Gobbler supply is scheduled to roughly double over the course of the first year, so if you have one Gobbler, it might take approximately one year to get the next, with rates slowing down after that. However, it is impossible to predict for certain what will happen.

Goo

Goo is an ERC20 Ethereum token emitted by Art Gobblers NFTs. In the lore, it’s the green substance that Art Gobblers love to shoot out of the hoses on their backs.

You can learn more about Goo in the Goo Paper linked below.

Because more and more Gobblers squirt out Goo faster and faster as the game progresses, each unit of Goo will be worth less in the game as time goes on.

The Gobbler economy runs on Goo. With Goo Tokens, you will be able to teleport in more Gobbler NFTs or produce Blank Pages. You can also hold it in order to produce more Goo at a faster rate.

An Art Gobbler NFT belonging to a given Ethereum account squirts Goo into a Goo tank associated with that account. The owner of that address can add or remove Goo from that tank at any time by using the Art Gobblers app.

Go to the Dashboard and click "Summon Gobbler."

Hoarding Goo tokens without owning any Gobbler NFTs is a very bad strategy. Everyone else will be generating new Goo, so your share of the total Goo supply will rapidly dwindle to nothing. It will be a very sad situation.

No! If it did, people might be incentivized to feed their Gobblers bad art just for the Goo, which we very much want to avoid.

Pricing is done according to the VRGDA mechanism

Pages

Artists will be able to mint their own drawings as 1/1 NFTs using Blank Page NFTs, a process we call “glamination.” These Glaminated Page NFTs, which belong to the Art Gobblers Pages collection, are ERC721 NFTs that belong to the artist. Like any other NFT, they can be transferred or sold by the artist at will.

Go to the Dashboard and click "buy Blank Pages."

No Blank Pages will exist at mint, but they can be created shortly after using Goo tokens. The schedule calls for an initial creation rate of 69 (nice!) pages per day to allow the community to experiment with art styles, memes, and more. Over the course of about 8 months, this issuance rate will slow down along a logistic curve until it hits a constant rate of 10 pages per day, which the protocol maintains forever.

No Pages accrue directly to the team, but one in ten newly created pages do go to a vault to be distributed to artists in the community. Learn more here

There is a royalty of 6.9% on Art Gobblers NFTs.

Pages do not have a royalty, because there is currently no way to distribute royalties on-chain to individual artists of pieces in the same collection on Ethereum, and we felt it was unfair to keep them for the project. We are very open to community solutions to this problem.

Drawing

The Draw Tool is a browser-based application that allows users to create digital works of art. Your art can be saved, edited and shared online. The playback feature allows people to see a video recreation of the art being created.

Go to artgobblers.com/draw and access the Draw Tool from there. There are different brush sizes, colors and tools at your disposal. Make sure to log in with your Ethereum wallet and/or your Twitter account to access your drafts later.

Your collection of drafts is tied to your Ethereum wallet and/or your Twitter account. You can see your drafts here.

Yes! Just click the “share” button in the top right of the draw tool.

You’re screwed! Just kidding. You can go to Feedback and report your issue there. (Hopefully you’re not screwed.)

Glamination

Artists will be able to mint their own drawings as 1/1 NFTs using Goo Tokens (and a Blank Page NFT of course). This process is called Glamination. Glaminated images are collectable, Gobble-able NFTs in the Art Gobblers pages collection.

Go to that draft’s page in the app. You’ll need either a Blank Page NFT or enough Goo to create one. Click the “glaminate” button and you’ll be good to go!

Have them submit their draft to you as an Art Offering through the app. You can click “accept” to Glaminate it. You will need either a Blank Page NFT or enough Goo to create one.

You can send them an invite code that will allow them to draw a draft you’ll be able to mint. Or, have them draw the draft themselves, and send it to you as an art offering!

You have to be the creator of the piece in order to glaminate it. You may glaminate someone else’s art ONLY if the creator of the piece has submitted it to you as an art offering.

Feeding Art to Gobblers

If you feed a Glaminated Page to your Art Gobbler NFT, ownership of the Page transfers on-chain to the Art Gobblers contract, which has a mapping indicating which particular Gobbler that piece of art belongs to. That Page then becomes a permanent part of that Gobbler’s stomach gallery, viewable through the Art Gobblers app. If you transfer your Gobbler, all of its gobbled works go with it.

This is a deliberate design choice to make gobbling a meaningful decision. We want the gobbling of art into a gallery to be the ultimate sign of acceptance in the community. Holders should only gobble art if they truly love it and it fits into the collection that they have curated.

As many as you can feed it!

You (or any of your envious friends) can view your gallery via the Art Gobblers app. Because gobbling is an on-chain relation, you may be able to view your gallery in other NFT apps as well over time.

The Art Gobblers front-end only displays and allows the gobbling of Glaminated Pages. However, users are free to do anything they want on-chain! This means it’s possible to create your own front-ends that interact with the chain however they like.

Legendary Gobblers

The ten Legendary Gobbler NFTs are extravagantly rare. They are the supreme rulers of Gobbler civilization. These giants among Gobblers will arrive at specific predestined times over the next ten years, providing punctuated drama and a sense of structure to the game over time.

In order to obtain a Legendary Gobbler, you must sacrifice a large number of normal Gobblers. The first one will start at a price of 69 Gobblers, and will become cheaper using a standard Dutch Auction mechanism until it is purchased. Each successive Legendary Gobbler will start at a price equal to twice what the last Legendary Gobbler sold for.

A new Legendary Gobbler appears each time an additional 10% of the total supply of Gobblers is issued via VRGDA, and each Legendary Auction is scheduled to end by the time the next Legendary Gobbler appears (or when all Gobblers are issued, in the case of the final Legendary).

To compensate for the many Gobbler lives lost, Legendary Gobblers produce Goo at twice the rate of the combined Gobblers sacrificed to summon them.

Hey, I can’t tell you what to do. But it probably couldn’t hurt to team up with other Gobbler Holders…

Project

Numerous talented human designers, developers, animators, illustrators, community builders, strategists, actors, and more came together to create Art Gobblers.

There is no roadmap for Art Gobblers.

Art Gobblers will be launched as a finished product, designed to bootstrap a self-sustaining ecosystem.

Neither Justin, nor Paradigm, nor the Art Gobblers team plan to build anything net new after the upcoming free mint. Art Gobblers is not stage one of the Gobblers metaverse. It is a whole and complete piece of alien technology that we will be unleashing upon an unsuspecting populace.

What the system does next, and how the inhabitants of Earth choose to aid it in its mission, is anyone’s guess.

One in every ten newly minted Gobblers and Pages will be distributed to humans in the Art Gobblers community in accordance with systems administered by the contributors. An additional one in ten newly minted Gobblers accrue to the Art Gobblers project itself.

Art Gobblers is open source! You can explore the codebase here

Minting

Art Gobblers is minting on October 31st, 2022.
